paint a picture

like i've said before, i wanted to try my luck on mixing photography and digital painting --- my newly-acquired hobby. this morning i did just that.

taking a portrait pic (of blockmate sarah) from my stock photos, i opted to add some flair to it by literally painting a picture. it wasn't easy having no background in painting and all. but i think i was able to somewhat pull it off, albeit not as good as i would have wanted.

some people might think "why ruin a decent picture?" or "why not just paint from scratch?"

the more important question for me though is "why not?"

learning how to do one thing is good. learning how to do two is better. learning how to integrate them is way way better. so why settle for less.

here's the untouched picture.

i began laying down the base colors, or the so-called "flats."

then i took the time using a texture brush to "paint" across the image
to give it that look which is being sought here.

here's the picture after some more refinements.

and then the final product. notice the chinese characters
i incorporated in the flame-like aura. wala lang. :)
