there are only good dreams tonight

this afternoon, i made my first attempt at adobe photoshop coloring. i have long wondered how the people who make comic books are able to come up with these wonderful pages filled with exquisite line art and color separations.

the line art i could understand. but the colors have always baffled me.

during law school, i never had the time to research the process because academics always had a way of interfering with our other interets --- mine in particular. but we're no longer speaking in the past tense, are we?

in coming up with my second christmas card design, i longed to have it colored comic-book style. hence, after finishing the drawing this morning ( i started last night), i googled the phrase "adobe photoshop coloring tutorial."

the rest, they say, is history.

the output is still rather crude compared to industry standards. i did, after all, color the drawing as i read the tutorial. still, i'm happy with the result in general. after all, i did learn something new today. :D

oh by the way, a short explanation of the design concept. parols or lanterns have been among the staples of the yuletide season. they're right there with the belens, christmas lights and the christmas tree. i noticed that that in terms of overall look they have a lot in common with dream catchers. i have a dream catcher in my room. in law school where one gets to have a lot of nightmares, i found it rather handy. :p i thought it would be cool to combine the two together. you could say it would be like having this thing that represents the season of hope, while trapping bad dreams until they perish in the light of dawn.
